Does God Ever Become Angry?

Three years ago, a preacher at a Lexington mega-church said to us, "God isn't angry at anyone for anything!"  I thought instantly, "Cool! Then I guess we don't need a savior!" Because if God isn't angry at our sins and our sinning, then we don't need Jesus.

There is a world of difference between saying that God is not a fundamentally angry Person, vs saying that God hates the bloodthirsty and boastful (which He does say, in Psalm 5:4-6). God is not a fundamentally angry Person. But He does reject sin, and He rejects the person who loves to sin.

Don't preach, "God is love so He never gets angry." You want to know the real truth? God gets angry because He is love. What do you imagine God feels when He looks at the willful atrocities of our world? Do you think He looks at the be-headings, and says, "'S'all good, bro"?

"Love" that doesn't get angry at evil isn't real love. But His mercy reaches out to us, in spite of His principle hatred of sin, through Jesus.
