A habitual, knee-jerk resistance to authority is not a mark of spirit, manliness, or liberty. It is the sure-fire way to destruction. The poorest parts of our communities are often occupied by people who won't say "Yes" to a boss, a judge, a friend, or a spouse. The most dysfunctional Christian ministries are controlled by people who must have things their own way; only problem is, they are surrounded by other people who also must have things their own way, which results in constant conflicts and splits. Respect for authority begins with respect for God's authority, and trickles down from there.
