I am aware that some Christian preachers and theologians have savaged the first law in Cru's classic Four Spiritual Laws booklet. I have some problems with the booklet, too, in particular the formula prayer they require at the conclusion. But I have no problem with the first law! Of course God loves everyone! The Bible could not be more clear. God sending His Son was the means by which God loved the whole world without exception (John 3:16). Only hyper-Calvinism denies that, and hyper-Calvinism is outside the boundaries of Christian orthodoxy. Even as staunch a Calvinist as John MacArthur preaches that God loves everyone, and he's right. Second, the Gospel is a wonderful plan! The Cru booklet is not talking about God having two wills, or that sort of speculative, secret metaphysic. The "wonderful plan' of which the booklet speaks is the Gospel! God means what He says. Again, only hyper-Calvinism denies that God doesn't want all people to repent and come to the saving knowledge of the truth. The first law is a true law, and its trueness should bring joy to everyone's hearts.
